French Heritage Society

FHS is an American non-profit association dedicated

to the preservation of the French architectural patrimony in the United States and in France
to the fostering of educational exchange between the two countries for architects, professional artisans, interns and students
to promoting the understanding of and appreciation for French culture with scholarly presentations and richly detailed travel opportunities for members.
Established in 1982, we provide support for historic buildings and gardens in both countries and sponsor cultural and educational exchange programs for our American and French members.

Our projects in the United States rekindle historic links between families on both sides of the Atlantic. Donors to a restoration become intimately involved with a project and its history.

We act to revive historic ties and renew traditional patterns where walls have fallen, small cities have been dismantled, or gardens have lost their structure.

In 2002, we changed our name from Friends of Vieilles Maisons Françaises to French Heritage Society and signed an agreement with the three national preservation associations in France : La Demeure Historique, Le Comité des Parcs et Jardins de France along with our continued collaboration with Les Vieilles Maisons Françaises. Thus French Heritage Society enlarged its mission and expanded its activities to represent the entirety of French heritage as the sole fundraiser in the United States for these associations.

Over the past twenty three years we have generated more than $10 million dollars, including matching funds, for more than 375 restoration projects in France and the United States.
